Read moreLocated among lovely residential houses it is a true gem. The staff is lovely and the baked goods are amazing.
If you want to eat there you so need to order a drink (but that is not uncommon in many places. Mandatory drink or seating fee). If you don’t want to then take all the baked goods to go. But it is worth it to eat it there and grab a drink along with the heavenly bakes.
The only time I was disappointed when visiting is when they were mostly sold out (but that’s on me for arriving late) so go there earlier in the day to have lots to choose from.
Pros: So many options! , Everything is great, Staff is lovely!

I visited this cafe a few years ago when I came to Tokyo the first time and found the food so delicious I went back several more times. When I was back in Tokyo this time, I came by for a treat and it lived up to all my memories from years ago 😊 Highly recommend!

I got the French toast and it came with a very light not too sweet banana ice cream. It comes nice and warm in the skillet and it was delicious.

Next, I had the chocolate doughnut and it was perfect in terms of moisture and texture, and the chocolate chips in it melt in your mouth upon each bite, which was very much appreciated.
Lastly, after a few hours, I indulged in the croissant, and it was flaky and yummy. Overall, the food sat very light on my body, which I also very much appreciated. Nothing felt heavy.

Calm charming location, helpful staff and delicious bakery options. Everything from savory breads to Almond Croissants was fantastic. There for my beautiful wife's birthday. First visit back to Tokyo after we had lived here for 2 years in 1992. So great to finally be back in this great country 🙏

Amazing vegan bakery! Super high quality bakery that serves really great seasonal treats, as well as vegan versions of Japanese classics - melon pan, curry bread and custard buns, all of which were everything I hoped for and more! We ended up going multiple times - so we also had seasonal veggies on tasted bread and a kind of onion focaccia situtaion, as well the plain and chocolate croissants, all so tasty!! Honestly can’t recommend enough!

This morning, I walked to this little café in the neighborhood. Everything is 100% vegan and the café looks really nice. You can sit inside or outside, and there is a great, delicious selection of food and drinks. The staff were very friendly. I decided to sit outside in the sun and ordered a latte with oat milk, a croissant, and a slice of carrot cake. The coffee and food were very tasty. I really enjoyed my meal there and can highly recommend the café.

I visited the remaining location after having been to the one at reload (no longer there) two years ago. I was a little disappointed both times. Despite seeing photos of many options, there have never been that many items ready to eat when I came. We ordered a muffin and a scone which were both quite tasty. We were preparing to sit and eat them in the cafe when we were informed that you are only allowed to sit if you buy a drink. Only one table was occupied. We would have been finished in 5 minutes. I won't be back.

Came around 1-2 and a lot of stuff was sold out. Mostly just various types of bread left. If you dine in, you just order a drink. But they have matcha! And it was very good. The maple walnut dessert was really good. I wish I had gotten there earlier to try other things.

We got there right after opening on a Saturday to ensure we got a seat. There are only six seats indoors (a table of four and a table of two), and a few more outside.
Read moreWe were there specifically to get a vegan curry pan, but there were none available. It seemed like a few dishes were unavailable still at that time - there was a sign behind the counter for French toast, but we were told it was too early for that too. There were lots of savoury items, mostly toasts with toppings, and a few sweet ones too (we found that Universal Bakes 2 had more sweets).
We tried the chocolate raspberry muffins, which were excellent - nicely baked, a perfect top, and loads of chocolate. We also had a weekly special, the zaatar croissant. This was sublime! The croissant was so crisp and flaky, and the savoury seasoning was perfect.
We got cafe lattes and a matcha latte, both were good. The matcha latte was nicely balanced.
The baked goods were really excellent, but it's a shame we never got to try the coveted curry pan.

Best vegan breakfast in Tokyo - Edit
Their sweet baked goods are great, but what really shines is their savory baked goods. I’ve gotten the croque-monsqiuer and radish toast innumerable times, as well as the curry bun. SOOO GOOD and the presentation is fabulous. Their matcha latte is also the best I’ve EVER had.

Absolutely delicious pastries and sandwiches. I got the hummus and carrot sandwich and almond croissant. Better than any vegan bakery have tried in ny. Service was amazing, absolutely lovely staff. Will travel back here before I leave!

Universal Bakes and Cafe is a wonderful, 100% vegan spot to enjoy a coffee and treat. The location, while merely a few steps away from Setagaya-Daita Station, is a quiet reprieve from the busy Tokyo life. A place to savor a delicious bread that stands apart from the monotonous baked goods you find again and again in every bakery in Japan. The quality is superb, and doesn't come across too bread-y and sweet as Japanese pastries tend to do.
Read moreIt's a bit costly but worth it. However, there is a requirement for one beverage per person if you dine in, which really hikes the cost up.
Seating is minimal, so be careful going on very hot/cold or rainy days.
My favorite: almond croissant and avocado toast thing (i don't recall the name now hehe♡), cold brew coffee
English: some items have English, some don't! I speak Japanese and usually visit with my half-Japanese partner but they still seem a bit hesitant when we order, so do your best!☆
